GREECE ADVANCES PROCUREMENT OF UH-60M BLACK HAWK HELICOPTERS

Greece has taken a significant stride towards acquiring 35 Sikorsky-built Black Hawk helicopters through a Foreign Military Sale, following the signing of a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) in April.

The Government of Greece has formalised its intention to procure 35 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters manufactured by Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT), via a Foreign Military Sale facilitated by the U.S. government, with the signing of a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) today.

Paul Lemmo, president of Sikorsky, commented, “The latest generation UH-60M Black Hawk will support the Hellenic Ministry of Defence’s ongoing modernisation efforts and will serve as a reliable asset for crucial national and allied security missions. Trusted by over 35 nations, including an increasing number of NATO allies, the versatile Black Hawk helicopter offers unparalleled global interoperability, significantly enhancing Greece’s deterrent capability and that of all NATO member nations.”

The procurement includes not only the aircraft themselves but also personnel training and training equipment to ensure seamless integration of the helicopters into the Hellenic Army.

Costas Papadopoulos, international business development director for Greece at Lockheed Martin, stated, “We are proud to further strengthen our existing partnership with the Hellenic Armed Forces by introducing the UH-60M Black Hawk into their expanding fleet. With its capabilities, the Black Hawk is the optimal solution for Greece’s multifaceted mission requirements, enhancing the nation’s effectiveness in the 21st Century Security landscape.”

With the addition of the UH-60M Black Hawks to their existing S-70B fleet and recently acquired MH-60R maritime helicopters for the Hellenic Navy, Greece will operate various versions of the Hawk family, benefitting from operational and sustainment efficiencies through fleet commonality.

As the world’s leading multi-role utility helicopter with 5 million combat hours, the Black Hawk will afford Greece a wide array of operational capabilities and access to a global ecosystem of over 5,000 Hawk aircraft.

The UH-60M/S-70M Black Hawk is the preferred aircraft for replacing legacy medium-lift utility helicopter fleets, offering flexibility to undertake a variety of missions at extended ranges and in the most challenging environments, with enhanced survivability compared to other aircraft.
