Proflight Zambia has announced its first interline agreement with a European carrier, partnering with Turkish Airlines to bolster connectivity between Southern Africa and Europe. This milestone deal, launching in November 2024, facilitates seamless travel from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Lusaka and Livingstone, integrating Proflight’s regional routes with Turkish Airlines’ vast global network.
Turkish Airlines currently operates direct flights to Lusaka twice a week. Through this agreement, passengers can now enjoy greater flexibility by booking connecting flights via Johannesburg or Cape Town, making Zambia’s premier destinations more accessible.
“Proflight is excited to partner with Turkish Airlines, a global airline that shares our commitment to connectivity, safety, reliability, and exceptional service,” said Captain Josias Walubita, director of flight operations at Proflight Zambia. “This agreement will simplify travel for passengers from Europe to Zambia, supporting our vision of positioning Zambia as a regional gateway.”
Boosting Tourism and Trade
The partnership is expected to have a transformative impact on Southern Africa’s tourism sector. Iconic destinations like South Luangwa National Park—renowned for its photographic and walking safaris—and Livingstone, home to the majestic Victoria Falls, stand to benefit significantly from enhanced travel links. For business travellers, the agreement streamlines booking and provides improved support for rebookings in case of disruptions.
Turkish Airlines’ expansive network, spanning 53 destinations within Türkiye and 296 international cities across 130 countries, now integrates with Proflight Zambia’s established regional routes. This strategic alignment will enhance trade and tourism links, offering competitive fares and simplified booking processes that appeal to both individual travellers and European tour operators.
A Gateway to Africa
For Zambia, this agreement further solidifies its status as a gateway to Southern Africa. By bridging gaps between Europe and key regional hubs such as Lusaka, Livingstone, Johannesburg, and Cape Town, the partnership underscores Zambia’s growing appeal as a premier destination for both leisure and business travel.
This collaboration between Proflight Zambia and Turkish Airlines demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening global connectivity while unlocking new opportunities for tourism, trade, and regional growth.
