SAFRAN TO ESTABLISH NEW DEFENCE EQUIPMENT FACILITY IN GERMANY

Safran Electronics & Defense will invest nearly €50 million in a new defence equipment facility in Ludwigsburg, Germany, expanding production capabilities and creating 200 jobs.

BERLIN, GERMANY – Safran Electronics & Defense has announced an investment of nearly €50 million in Germany to expand its industrial and technological capabilities in the defence sector. The investment will support the establishment of a new facility in Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, replacing the company’s current site in Murr and reinforcing its presence in Germany, where it has operated for more than four decades.

New centre of excellence planned for 2028

The new Ludwigsburg facility is expected to become operational in early 2028 and will serve as a centre of excellence for Safran Electronics & Defense’s activities in Germany. The larger site will provide enhanced industrial capabilities to support the company’s future growth and expand its production and maintenance operations.

The facility will build on the activities currently undertaken at Murr, which focuses primarily on fibre optic gyroscopes (FOG) and Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems used on both civil and military platforms. The new site will also introduce capabilities for the production and maintenance of portable optronic equipment for military personnel.

Investment expected to create 200 jobs

Safran stated that the investment will generate approximately 200 new positions, including opportunities for engineers, production technicians, quality specialists, business development personnel and sales professionals.

The company said the project further strengthens its role as an industrial partner to the German armed forces, the German government and the country’s defence industry.

Supporting defence technology capabilities

Marzell Schiller, Director of Safran Electronics & Defense Germany, said the company has supplied advanced defence technologies to Germany’s armed forces and defence sector for more than 40 years, covering areas such as Position, Navigation and Timing systems, optronics and guidance solutions. He noted that the new investment will expand Safran’s “Made in Germany” capabilities while supporting technological sovereignty and local employment.

Safran Electronics & Defense develops equipment and systems for aerospace, defence and space applications, including avionics, inertial navigation systems, optronics, flight controls, guidance systems and artificial intelligence solutions.
