AIR BP EXPANDS AFRICAN FOOTPRINT WITH SONANGOL TECHNICAL SERVICES AGREEMENT

Air bp, the aviation division of bp and a global leader in aviation fuel and services, is reinforcing its commitment to Africa through a new technical services agreement with Sonangol, Angola’s state-owned oil company. The collaboration marks a significant milestone in aviation fuel infrastructure development on the continent, with the focus on delivering bespoke technical support and expertise.

Under the agreement, Air bp will support Sonangol’s strategic development plans by providing engineering integrity, operability, and efficiency expertise at the new Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport (NBJ) in Luanda. The technical services package includes access to a suite of operations and maintenance processes, digital tools, airfield automation, as well as online training and workshops aimed at capacity building.

“This is a well-established model, which has been successful in many countries,” said Gethin Jones, Technical Services Director at Air bp. “We leverage our world-class technical leadership and local language capability where possible across all aspects of aviation. By fostering deep cooperation with local organisations, together we can provide assurance, whilst building internal capability to support them to develop their aviation business and deliver successful projects.”

Air bp’s presence in Africa dates back 80 years, during which the company has built a strong reputation for supporting customers in delivering safe and reliable operations.

Commenting on the agreement, Mauro Graça, CEO of Sonangol DC, said: “We are excited about this collaboration with Air bp, which brings with it extensive experience and technical expertise. This agreement will not only strengthen our ability to provide high-quality aviation services but also enable us to maximise our operational efficiency and ensure compliance with the highest operational and environmental safety standards. Together, we are committed to support the growth of the aviation sector in Angola and positioning Sonangol as a key player in the African market.”

With a presence at over 600 locations in more than 40 countries, Air bp continues to fuel the future of aviation by delivering over 6.6 billion gallons of aviation fuel annually. The partnership with Sonangol underscores its dedication to enabling local aviation infrastructure and building long-term, sustainable operations across Africa
