Business aviation firm marks milestone amid regional expansion and growing advocacy for free skies
LAGOS, Nigeria – 4 June 2025: VivaJets, a fast-growing player in Nigeria’s business aviation sector and a brand under Falcon Aerospace Limited, has officially received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), opening new commercial pathways across the continent.
With the AOC in hand, the company now gains commercial access to the 34 African countries that have ratified the Yamoussoukro Decision – a key stepping stone towards the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).
“Our story illustrates the transformative power of business aviation in improving connectivity and innovation across Africa,” said CEO Erika Achum. “We believe that Africa’s prosperity lies in connectivity within and with the continent.”
Since its inception just two years ago, VivaJets has emerged as a vocal advocate for reducing restrictions to intra-African air travel. Speaking at the 2025 Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan, Achum urged continental leaders to dismantle outdated aviation agreements and forge a unified aviation strategy that drives accessibility, innovation, and collaboration.
“We are a continent of over 1.4 billion people… If we get aviation right, we unlock a future where Africans can move, trade, and connect freely,” he said.
VivaJets’ trajectory has included fleet expansion, international routes, and a growing workforce. The company also made cultural waves when its bespoke cabin crew uniform, designed by Loza Maleombho, debuted at Lagos Fashion Week 2024. In April 2025, it launched ABOVE, a lifestyle and travel magazine aimed at business aviation clientele.
“We have been blessed by the most dedicated and creative team,” said Tejumade Salami, COO of Falcon Aerospace. “We are committed to scaling even greater heights—delivering excellence, fostering innovation, and shaping the future of private aviation in Africa.”
As a brand, VivaJets provides charter, management, and aircraft sales services, and sits alongside Falcon’s digital platforms, FlyPJX and CharterXE, and innovation incubators Instig Labs and The Adrenalina. With its AOC secured, VivaJets is well-positioned to help reshape African skies through a blend of technology, access, and visionary leadership.
