ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES LAUNCHES NEW PASSENGER ROUTE TO HANOI, STRENGTHENING AFRICA–ASIA CONNECTIVITY

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier and one of the world’s fastest-growing airline brands, has officially launched its inaugural passenger service to Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The new route, operated four times weekly with a one-stop in Dhaka, marks the airline’s first passenger gateway into Vietnam and its 20th destination in Asia.

To celebrate the milestone, Ethiopian Airlines hosted a high-level inaugural ceremony at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel. The event was attended by government officials, diplomats, and senior executives of the airline, including Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.

“We are truly delighted to start passenger services to Hanoi, a city of great cultural and economic significance,” said Mr. Tasew. “This new route not only supports our vision of connecting Africa to the world but also serves as a bridge for enhanced cooperation between Africa and Southeast Asia. With our modern fleet, award-winning service, and vast global network, we are confident that this route will facilitate growing tourism, business, and people-to-people ties between Vietnam and the African continent.”

The addition of Hanoi strengthens Ethiopian Airlines’ strategic expansion in Southeast Asia, reinforcing its role as a key player in global intercontinental air travel. Currently, the airline operates over 190 weekly flights to 28 destinations across Asia, offering African passengers some of the region’s most comprehensive connectivity.

Hanoi, known for its rich architectural heritage and historical landmarks, offers travellers from Africa and beyond a vibrant cultural experience. This latest route underscores Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to bridging continents, cultures, and communities with efficient and reliable air transport.

Ethiopian Airlines has built a legacy of aviation excellence over the past eight decades, operating to more than 160 destinations across five continents. As a Star Alliance member, the airline continues to invest in passenger comfort and sustainability, deploying a modern fleet that includes Boeing 737s, 777s, 787s, Airbus A350-900s and -1000s, and De Havilland Q400s.

Celebrated for its leadership in African aviation, Ethiopian has garnered numerous accolades, including Skytrax’s ‘Best Airline in Africa’ for eight consecutive years. Under its ambitious ‘Vision 2035’, the airline aims to rank among the top 20 most competitive aviation groups globally, while reinforcing its Pan-African footprint through strategic multi-hub operations in Togo, Malawi, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
