Paul Geaney, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Avolon

Virgin Australia, an Avolon customer since 2011, already has eight aircraft on lease with the lessor. The new addition marks the 12th 737-8 MAX in the airline’s fleet and will support Virgin Australia’s fleet growth and renewal programme.

Paul Geaney, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Avolon, said:
“We have a strong and long-standing relationship with Virgin Australia and are delighted to support their plans with six new 737-8 MAX aircraft. The scale of our orderbook and balance sheet give us the ability to provide our customer airlines with bespoke solutions to support their expansion and fleet transition.”

Race Strauss, Chief Financial Officer at Virgin Australia, added:
“We value our ongoing partnership with Avolon and we are pleased to welcome our first 737-8 MAX with the lessor. We look forward to building on our relationship with Avolon through future deliveries.”

Avolon currently works with 142 airlines in 60 countries and, as of 30 June 2025, has an owned, managed and committed fleet of 1,166 aircraft (pro forma for the new Airbus order).

Virgin Australia, founded in 2000, operates one of Australia’s largest airline networks, covering domestic routes, short-haul international services, charter and cargo operations. It employs more than 8,000 people and runs the popular Velocity Frequent Flyer programme, offering access to more than 650 destinations worldwide.
