TAIPEI, Taiwan — Tecnam Aircraft has announced its support for Apex Aviation Inc. as the company unveiled the Goshawk Project at the Taipei Aerospace & Defence Technology Exhibition (TADTE) 2025. The initiative marks Taiwan’s first privately developed, fully integrated manned intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platform, based on the proven Tecnam P2012 Special Mission Platform (SMP).
Developed to strengthen Taiwan’s maritime defence resilience, the Goshawk integrates IMSAR NSP-7 synthetic aperture radar and Teledyne FLIR Star SAFIRE 380-HDc EO/IR sensors with the P2012 SMP. This configuration enables all-weather, day-and-night wide-area surveillance and precision target identification. Offering detection ranges up to 340 km and resolution down to 0.1 m, the system delivers persistent maritime domain awareness in challenging operational environments.
Apex has also introduced Taiwan’s first Airborne LiDAR Bathymetry (ALB) capability using Hexagon’s HawkEye-5 system. This innovation allows high-density seabed mapping down to 50 metres, supporting applications including channel charting, port development, reef and wreck detection, offshore engineering and national defence.
“The Goshawk Project embodies Apex Aviation’s vision of becoming a new breed of partner for Taiwan’s defence ecosystem—offering rapid capability build-up, cost-effective sustainment, and true force-multiplier effects for government and end-users,” said Wilson Kao, Apex CEO.
Francesco Sferra, Tecnam P2012 Special Mission Platform Sales and Business Development Manager & Experimental Test Pilot, added: “The multi-mission capability of the P2012 Special Mission Platform Series is once again proven by the high-end integration of sensors and mission systems carried out by Apex in the P2012 Goshawk. The proven P2012 SMP baseline, integrated with state-of-the-art equipment, enhances Apex’s ability to deliver operational excellence and maritime resilience.”
With integration, validation and training already completed in Taiwan, the Goshawk platform is fully mission-ready. Its multi-layered air-sea ISR capabilities extend decision-making timelines, reduce reliance on traditional military platforms, and reinforce Taiwan’s grey-zone resilience through public-private cooperation.
Apex Aviation will showcase the P2012 Goshawk at TADTE 2025 in Taipei from September 18 to 20, inviting government leaders, industry stakeholders and the public to explore how the P2012 SMP is shaping the future of defence and maritime domain awareness in Taiwan.
