13 October 2025 – Moeve, the global energy company, has become the first external sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supplier to join Avelia, the blockchain-powered book and claim platform dedicated to scaling SAF and reducing aviation’s greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint.
The agreement marks a major milestone for Avelia, supporting its evolution into a multi-supplier platform and enhancing access to SAF’s GHG benefits across the aviation value chain. By integrating Moeve alongside Shell, the platform now offers airlines, corporations, freight forwarders and shippers broader SAF supplier choice.
Avelia, launched in 2022 by Shell Aviation in partnership with Accenture and American Express Global Business Travel, leverages a book and claim model to provide a secure, transparent, and verified means of accounting for SAF usage even when the fuel is not physically available at the nearest location. The model enables participants across business travel and air freight to support aviation decarbonisation, contributing to reductions in life cycle GHG emissions.
Since its launch, Avelia has facilitated the injection of over 41 million gallons of SAF at 17 airport injection points worldwide, abating more than 370,000 tCO2e. Fifty-seven corporations and airlines, including Alaska Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Delta Air Lines, Emirates and JetBlue, have engaged with the platform.
Moeve’s participation aligns with its Positive Motion strategy, which aims to accelerate SAF adoption and drive Europe’s energy transition. The company produces SAF at its La Rábida Energy Park in Huelva, Spain, from used cooking oils, and is developing a second-generation biofuels facility capable of producing up to 500,000 tonnes of SAF and renewable diesel annually. Moeve targets a total SAF production capacity of 800,000 tonnes by 2030.
Carlos Barrasa, Moeve’s Executive Vice President for Commercial & Clean Energies, said: “Avelia stands out as an initiative that has demonstrated real scale and credibility in accelerating SAF adoption. We are proud to join as its first strategic third-party SAF supplier and see this agreement as a key step in our ambition to lead aviation decarbonisation in Europe.”
Raman Ojha, President of Shell Aviation, added: “Moeve’s role as Avelia’s first external SAF supplier marks a key milestone. By building a more inclusive and transparent system, we are enabling broader participation in aviation’s decarbonisation and accelerating progress together.”
