AUSTRO CONTROL SELECTS ONECONTROL TO MODERNISE VIENNA TOWER OPERATIONS

Austro Control will modernise the Vienna Airport tower with ADB Safegate’s OneControl system, integrating all safety-critical information into a single platform to enhance operational efficiency and controller support.

Austro Control’s air traffic controllers are set to receive a major technological upgrade as the organisation prepares to equip the Vienna Airport tower with the OneControl system from ADB Safegate. The high-tech tower suite, developed in Graz, will be introduced over the coming years and will bring Vienna’s air traffic management capabilities up to the latest global standards.

OneControl is regarded as one of the most advanced tower solutions in the world and is already in use at leading international hubs including Frankfurt, JFK New York, Munich, and Kuwait. Austro Control selected the system through an international tendering process.

“With OneControl, we are relying on state-of-the-art technology and maximum operational reliability. The system will provide our air traffic controllers with optimal support in the safe handling of air traffic,” said Austro Control Managing Director Philipp Piber at the contract signing in Graz. Commissioning of the system in the Vienna tower is planned for the end of 2028.

Gonzalo Moreno-Muñoz, Managing Director of ADB Safegate Austria, noted the significance of the win. “We were able to prevail in a demanding international competition. This contract confirms our commitment to innovative software solutions in air traffic control. We are proud to continue to count Austro Control among our reference customers.”

All Safety-Critical Information in One View

Traditionally, tower controllers rely on several separate screens to manage different systems—ranging from flight plan displays to ground surveillance. OneControl consolidates these previously isolated information streams into a single, intuitive platform. By presenting all safety-relevant data at a glance, controllers can more quickly assess movements on the runway, apron, and in the air.

Alongside enhancing situational awareness, the system supports safe, efficient, and sustainable traffic management. Key features include conflict detection, automated and intuitive workflows, and a strong emphasis on reducing controller workload.

The introduction of OneControl marks a significant step forward for Vienna Airport’s tower operations, aligning the facility with cutting-edge international standards as aviation traffic continues to evolve.
