Boeing completes its acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, strengthening commercial production, aftermarket services, and defense capabilities while integrating 15,000 teammates across five sites.
Arlington, Va., December, 2025 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] has officially completed its acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems [NYSE: SPR], a move the company says reinforces its commitment to aviation safety, airplane quality, and supply chain stability.
“This is a pivotal moment in Boeing’s history and future success as we begin to integrate Spirit AeroSystems’ commercial and aftermarket operations and establish Spirit Defense,” said Kelly Ortberg, President and CEO of The Boeing Company. “As we welcome our new teammates and bring our two companies together, our focus is on maintaining stability so we can continue delivering high quality airplanes, differentiated services, and advanced defense capabilities for our customers and the industry.”
The acquisition includes Spirit’s Boeing-related commercial operations, such as fuselages for the 737 program and major structures for the 767, 777, and 787 Dreamliner, as well as commercially procured fuselages for the P-8 and KC-46. It also brings Boeing’s largest supplier of spare parts in-house, expanding the company’s global maintenance, repair, and overhaul footprint and adding Spirit’s aftermarket businesses to Boeing’s rotable, lease, and exchange portfolio.
Spirit Defense will operate as an independent supplier under Boeing Defense, Space & Security, ensuring uninterrupted support for U.S. defense and space programs. Portions of Spirit’s operations in Belfast, Northern Ireland, will operate as an independent subsidiary under the Short Brothers brand.
The integration of Spirit’s commercial and aftermarket operations in Wichita, Kansas; Dallas, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and its Aerospace Innovation Center in Prestwick, Scotland, brings approximately 15,000 teammates across five sites into Boeing.
Kansas leaders welcomed the acquisition, highlighting the significance of the state’s aviation expertise. Governor Laura Kelly said, “Boeing’s acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems underscores the global significance of the work happening in our state and positions Kansas to continue shaping the future of aerospace innovation for decades to come.”
