LOCKHEED MARTIN WELCOMES MEXICO TO THE C-130J SUPER HERCULES FLEET

Mexico has become the first country in Latin America to operate the C-130J Super Hercules following the acquisition of its first C-130J-30 tactical airlifter by the Fuerza Aérea Mexicana. The announcement was confirmed by Lockheed Martin on 21 January 2026.

The acquisition marks the first of two international C-130J contract awards completed in 2025, with the second new international customer yet to be disclosed. By selecting the C-130J-30, Mexico joins 24 other nations operating the aircraft as part of a global fleet exceeding 560 C-130Js currently in service.

A longstanding operator of earlier Hercules variants, the Fuerza Aérea Mexicana is recapitalising its legacy fleet with the C-130J-30 Super Hercules. The decision reflects more than five decades of C-130 operational experience and the benefits of continued interoperability with other Hercules operators worldwide.

The C-130J-30 is the stretched variant of the C-130J, offering an additional 15 feet of cargo space. With increased power, extended range, improved fuel efficiency and greater internal capacity, the aircraft introduces a new phase of modern tactical airlift capability for Mexico and the wider Latin American region. These enhancements allow the air force to meet a broad range of operational requirements while building on its established experience in C-130 flying, maintenance and logistics.

By leveraging existing infrastructure and institutional knowledge of the Hercules platform, Mexico is expected to achieve a smoother transition to the C-130J, reducing introduction timelines while supporting sustained readiness. Continued access to Lockheed Martin’s global support network is also intended to enable faster modernisation and long-term fleet support.

Commenting on the milestone, Trish Pagan, Vice President of Air Mobility & Maritime Missions at Lockheed Martin, said the decision reflects ongoing confidence in the platform. She noted that the C-130J-30 will provide the Fuerza Aérea Mexicana with performance, reliability and versatility across all 20 mission profiles for which the aircraft is certified.

For more than 50 years, the C-130 Hercules has supported Mexico in disaster response, military operations and other critical missions. Its continued service underscores the enduring partnership between Lockheed Martin and the Fuerza Aérea Mexicana, as well as Mexico’s commitment to regional security and cooperation.

Mexico’s selection comes amid renewed regional interest in multi-role airlift platforms. The C-130J Super Hercules offers certified multi-mission capability, established operational performance and a proven global presence, positioning it as a core asset for tactical airlift operations across Latin America.
