WORLD’S FIRST PC-12 PRO AEROMEDICAL DELIVERED TO THE ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE OF AUSTRALIA

The first PC-12 PRO aeromedical aircraft has been delivered to the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, supporting medical operations across remote regions of South Australia and the Northern Territory.

The first PC-12 PRO configured for aeromedical operations has been delivered to the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS), marking the arrival of serial number 3010 as part of a five-aircraft order for RFDS Central Operations.

The delivery represents the first of five new PC-12 PRO aircraft that will join the organisation’s fleet, which has operated Pilatus aircraft for more than three decades.

Aircraft delivery and operational role

The new aircraft will support RFDS Central Operations missions across the central corridor of South Australia and the Northern Territory. These operations provide medical services to remote communities across some of Australia’s most isolated regions.

The PC-12 PRO features a spacious pressurised cabin exceeding nine cubic metres, allowing it to accommodate patients, crew and medical equipment. The aircraft is also equipped with a large cargo door and lift system designed to facilitate rapid patient loading during aeromedical missions.

Operational reliability and fleet capability

Tony Vaughan ASM, Chief Executive of RFDS SA/NT, noted that the PC-12 platform has demonstrated a strong operational record in demanding environments.

“The PC-12 has an outstanding safety record, and a proven history of reliability operating in the diverse and challenging environments where we deliver services, from southern Australia to the tropics in the Top End,” Vaughan said.

He added that the aircraft will strengthen the organisation’s fleet reliability and improve its ability to respond quickly, safely and efficiently to medical emergencies.

Pilatus partnership with RFDS

Pilatus highlighted the long-standing relationship between the aircraft manufacturer and the RFDS, describing the organisation as a valued customer for more than 30 years.

Dave Scutchings, CEO of Pilatus’ Australian subsidiary, said the new aircraft builds on the established legacy of the PC-12 platform while introducing improved performance, updated avionics and additional operational capability.

“The brand-new aircraft builds on the proven legacy of the PC-12, delivering enhanced performance, advanced avionics and increased capability to support the RFDS in achieving its mission of ‘Furthest corner, Finest care’,” Scutchings said.

André Zimmermann, Vice President Business Aviation at Pilatus Aircraft Ltd, said the delivery reflects the long-term collaboration between the organisations and their shared commitment to supporting aeromedical operations in Australia.

PC-12 PRO platform features

The PC-12 PRO represents the latest development of the PC-12 aircraft family. The aircraft incorporates the Garmin 3000 avionics system and includes a range of updated safety features, including the Safety Autoland system.

The platform retains key operational characteristics associated with the PC-12 series, including the ability to operate from short and unpaved runways, along with the large cargo door designed to support specialised missions.

More than 2,200 PC-12 aircraft have been delivered worldwide, collectively logging more than twelve million flight hours.
