FLYSAFAIR ENHANCES MOBILE BOOKING WITH APPLE PAY AND GOOGLE PAY

FlySafair introduces one-tap Apple Pay and Google Pay functionality via Stitch, enhancing the mobile booking experience and reducing transaction friction for passengers.

Streamlined Payment Integration via Stitch

Johannesburg-based low-cost carrier FlySafair has announced the introduction of one-tap payment options within its mobile application. By integrating Apple Pay and Google Pay, the airline aims to reduce transaction friction, allowing passengers to complete flight bookings securely without the manual entry of card details. The new functionality is powered by Stitch, a South African payments infrastructure firm specialising in seamless online and in-person transactions.

Digital Strategy and Operational Efficiency

The implementation of these payment methods reflects a broader industry trend toward digital self-service tools designed to manage passenger flow and enhance the booking experience. According to Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair, the addition of these globally recognised secure payment methods allows customers to finalise purchases in seconds. While currently restricted to the mobile app, the airline has confirmed that a website rollout is planned for a future phase of the digital expansion.

Expanded Suite of Technical Support Tools

The payment update joins an established portfolio of digital services maintained by the carrier to improve operator-passenger transparency. These include “Track My Plane,” an in-app feature providing near-real-time aircraft tracking, and “AI Lindi,” a 24/7 WhatsApp-based assistant capable of managing single-passenger bookings and cancellations. Furthermore, the use of WhatsApp Pay for airport baggage fees is intended to reduce check-in queues, supporting more efficient ground operations.

Industry Recognition and Regional Reach

Operating since 2014, FlySafair serves ten domestic destinations and five international routes within Africa. The carrier, which has been consistently ranked for on-time performance by Cirium, received multiple accolades at the 2025 SACAA Civil Aviation Industry Awards, including the Aviation Innovation award. Kiaan Pillay, CEO and Co-founder at Stitch, noted that the partnership is focused on meeting evolving customer demands for innovative travel experiences through robust technical infrastructure.
