KENYA AIRWAYS REPORTS 2025 PERFORMANCE IMPACTED BY FLEET CONSTRAINTS AND SUPPLY CHAIN DISRUPTIONS

Kenya Airways reports 2025 results impacted by fleet constraints and supply chain disruptions, with reduced capacity and continued operational challenges.

NAIROBI — Kenya Airways has reported its full-year financial results for the period ending 31 December 2025, with performance affected by global aviation supply chain disruptions and reduced operational capacity.

The airline indicated that aircraft availability constraints, including the temporary grounding of three Boeing 787-8 aircraft, had a direct impact on network capacity and passenger volumes.

CAPACITY AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

Available Seat Kilometres declined by 18% to 13,349 million, reflecting reduced fleet availability. Passenger numbers fell by 13%, contributing to a 14% decline in revenue.

Total revenue for the year reached KShs 161 billion, while operating costs decreased by 3% to KShs 167 billion. The airline reported an operating loss of KShs 5.6 billion and a loss after tax of KShs 17.2 billion.

INDUSTRY OPERATING ENVIRONMENT

According to Kenya Airways, the wider aviation sector continued to face challenges in 2025, including aircraft delivery delays, engine shortages and ongoing supply chain disruptions.

The airline also cited elevated input costs, including fuel and labour, alongside geopolitical uncertainty and infrastructure limitations within Africa.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

The airline stated that its near-term focus is on restoring operational capacity, improving financial stability and strengthening resilience. Key priorities include returning grounded aircraft to service, maintaining cost discipline and progressing capital-raising initiatives.

According to the company, demand for air travel remains strong despite the operational constraints affecting the industry.
