Biman Bangladesh Airlines orders 14 Boeing 787 and 737 MAX aircraft in its largest-ever fleet expansion and modernisation move.
Fleet expansion includes 787 Dreamliner family and first 737 MAX acquisition
FLEET MODERNISATION STRATEGY
DHAKA, BANGLADESH — Boeing and Biman Bangladesh Airlines have announced the airline’s largest-ever aircraft order, comprising 14 aircraft from the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX families.
The order includes eight 787-10s, two 787-9s, and four 737-8 aircraft, supporting the airline’s strategy to expand capacity and modernise both its widebody and single-aisle fleets.
WIDEBODY EXPANSION
The introduction of the 787-10 marks a new capability for Biman, representing its first order of the largest variant in the Dreamliner family. These aircraft will primarily serve high-demand routes to the Middle East, while the additional 787-9s will support long-haul operations to Europe and North America.
The 787 platform will enable increased passenger and cargo capacity, with the 787-10 offering lower seat-mile costs compared to other widebody aircraft in its category.
NARROWBODY RENEWAL
The order also introduces the 737 MAX into Biman’s fleet, with four 737-8 aircraft set to enhance regional connectivity across the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia.
This marks a transition from the airline’s existing Next-Generation 737 fleet, with the MAX offering improved fuel efficiency and operational commonality.
EFFICIENCY AND NETWORK GROWTH
Both the 787 and 737 MAX families deliver fuel-use improvements of approximately 20–25% compared to the aircraft they replace, supporting cost efficiency and environmental performance objectives.
Biman currently operates 14 Boeing aircraft, including 787-8s, 787-9s, 777s, and earlier-generation 737s, serving 22 international destinations from Dhaka.
The latest order aligns with projected long-term growth in South Asia’s aviation market, where widebody fleet capacity is expected to expand significantly over the coming decades.
