ROTRON DEMONSTRATES SKYLANCE LONG-RANGE AUTONOMOUS STRIKE PLATFORM FOLLOWING ONDAS ACQUISITION

Rotron Aerospace has successfully demonstrated its SkyLance long-range autonomous strike platform following its acquisition by Ondas Inc., supporting expanded UK defence and export capability.

Rotron Aerospace has announced the successful demonstration and firing of its SkyLance long-range autonomous strike platform, marking a significant milestone for the UK-based unmanned systems developer following its recent acquisition by Ondas Inc..

The company stated that the demonstration validated key propulsion and systems performance characteristics of the SkyLance platform, which has been developed as a long-range one-way effector (OWE) designed for operations in contested environments.

According to Rotron, the platform is intended to provide scalable, lower-cost long-range capability using proprietary UK-developed propulsion technology that improves range, endurance and operational efficiency compared with conventional turbine and piston-engine systems.

PLATFORM DESIGNED FOR CONTESTED ENVIRONMENTS

Rotron said the SkyLance system incorporates onboard autonomous capability intended to support navigation and targeting in GPS-denied and electronically contested environments. The platform is also designed to integrate with ISR and command-and-control networks to support responsive sensor-to-effect operations.

The company stated that the system has been engineered for scalable deployment and rapid integration into distributed operational environments, particularly where cost-effective long-range capability is required.

“The successful demonstration of SkyLance validates our ability to deliver long-range, cost-effective capability for modern operational environments,” said Alex Head, CEO of Rotron.

He added that the partnership with Ondas is expected to accelerate development, production and delivery capacity for UK and allied markets.

UK DEFENCE AND EXPORT POSITIONING

Rotron said the integration into Ondas is intended to strengthen sovereign UK defence capability through expanded domestic production, resilient supply chains and increased export potential for advanced autonomous systems.

The company also linked the programme to evolving NATO operational requirements, particularly for scalable long-range systems capable of supporting deterrence and infrastructure protection roles.

According to the release, Ondas expects the acquisition to support the creation of hundreds of highly skilled defence and aerospace jobs in the United Kingdom during 2026.

Rotron further stated that the SkyLance programme is positioned within a multi-billion-dollar addressable export market as NATO-aligned nations seek deployable and lower-cost autonomous defence systems.

ONDAS EXPANDS EUROPEAN DEFENCE FOOTPRINT

Ondas described the United Kingdom as a central element of its international growth strategy, with Rotron forming the foundation of the company’s European defence capability.

The company said the broader objective is to combine autonomous aerial systems, secure communications and integrated operational architecture for defence, security and critical infrastructure applications.

The press release included media assets showing the SkyLance launch sequence during testing operations. Images supplied by Rotron depict the platform launching under powered flight from a ground-based test area.
