Emirates has launched a new Comprehensive Travel Cover product offering expanded medical protection, conflict-related cover and airline-managed disruption support for travellers, including customers in South Africa.
New travel insurance product includes conflict-related medical cover and disruption support
DUBAI, UAE – Emirates has launched what it describes as the world’s first comprehensive travel insurance product offering this level of protection, combining expanded travel insurance benefits with airline-managed support during a range of travel disruption scenarios. The new Comprehensive Travel Cover is available to customers in South Africa from 17 June 2026.
EXPANDED PROTECTION FOR TRAVELLERS
The new insurance product includes trip cancellation cover, baggage delay or loss compensation, unlimited worldwide medical expenses, emergency evacuation cover and newly introduced conflict-related medical expense protection of up to US$25,000. It also includes a complimentary trip extension of up to 30 days where required, with cover remaining valid regardless of government travel advice.
The insurance has been developed in partnership with Travel Guard, while Emirates will provide additional operational support during disruptions beyond the insurance benefits.
ADDITIONAL SUPPORT DURING DISRUPTIONS
Under the new programme, Emirates will provide airline-managed hotel accommodation during eligible disruption events, including airspace closures. Where Emirates services are unavailable or itineraries involve other airlines, the carrier said it will also rebook affected customers on alternative airlines at no additional cost when cancellations are related to conflict disruptions.
The airline noted that these operational support measures complement existing customer services, including flexible ticket date changes and its 24-hour “Hold My Fare” option.
AVAILABLE TO SOUTH AFRICAN CUSTOMERS
For customers in South Africa, Comprehensive Travel Cover became available on 17 June 2026 and can be purchased when booking flights through Emirates’ website or added later through the airline’s Manage Booking service.
Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the product was developed in response to customer demand for broader travel insurance protection, while Travel Guard said the collaboration establishes a new benchmark for travel insurance products designed to address the needs of modern travellers.
The product is initially available in a number of international markets, including South Africa, the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Germany, France, Singapore and several other European countries.
