Tecnam CEO Paolo Pascale used the inauguration of Rome Urbe Airport’s new terminal to announce that Altair — an independent aviation services spin-off of the Tecnam Group — plans to launch a regional airline operating the P2012 Traveller, as Italy’s ENAC-led Regional Air Mobility project takes its first operational steps.
ALTAIR PLANS COMMERCIAL AIRLINE OPERATIONS SUBJECT TO REGULATORY APPROVAL
Tecnam participated in the official inauguration of the new terminal at Rome Urbe Airport on 8 July 2026, an event hosted by Italy’s Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and its in-house company ENAC Servizi to mark the first routes of Italy’s new Regional Air Mobility (RAM) project. Speaking at the event, Tecnam CEO Paolo Pascale announced that Altair Solutions, an independent spin-off of the Tecnam Group headquartered at the Capua Aerospace Hub, intends to expand its operations into the commercial sector by launching a regional airline. Pascale said Altair currently operates a helicopter and, regulations permitting, will soon operate with Tecnam’s P2012 Traveller aircraft.
Altair is primarily a provider of comprehensive maintenance and aviation services, combining decades of experience developed alongside Tecnam with a global network of technical, operational and commercial partners. Its services encompass certified maintenance, technical training, engineering consulting, logistics, modernisation programmes, airworthiness support, Tecnam Certified Pre-Owned services and premium FBO solutions. The planned expansion into commercial airline operations would represent a significant step-change in scope for the company. Pascale was unequivocal about the P2012’s suitability for the task: a twin-engine commuter purpose-designed for the kind of short-haul regional connectivity Italy’s RAM network seeks to provide, already operating in Europe, the United States, Alaska, South America, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand.
ITALY’S REGIONAL AIR MOBILITY PROJECT AND THE RAM TERMINAL CONCEPT
The RAM project is conceived and led by ENAC and ENAC Servizi with the stated aim of promoting short-haul mobility fully integrated with other transport systems, creating a flexible national network that improves connectivity between territories and broadens access to mobility. Under the RAM framework, airport terminals are redefined from simple transit facilities into regional gateways, designed to enable new air-to-air intermodality and multi-modal connectivity. The 8 July event at Rome Urbe Airport, attended by Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, Lazio Region President Francesco Rocca, ENAC President Pierluigi Di Palma and ENAC Servizi Sole Director Marco Trombetti, marked the formal presentation of the project’s first routes.
Marco Trombetti, Sole Director of ENAC Servizi, said the development of Regional Air Mobility represented a strategic opportunity to evolve Italy’s aviation system into a more connected, sustainable and integrated model of mobility. He said ENAC Servizi was contributing to this vision by enhancing a network of territorial airports designed to become platforms for regional connectivity, innovation and technological development. He identified Capua Airport as playing a key role within that network, supported by the infrastructure investments currently underway.
CAPUA DEVELOPMENT: 1,400-METRE RUNWAY, HANGARS AND NEW TERMINAL
Tecnam’s home base at Capua is formally part of the RAM airport network, and Pascale highlighted the infrastructure investment being undertaken there by ENAC Servizi. A new 1,400-metre asphalt runway is nearing completion at Capua Airport, to be followed by new parking areas, hangars and a terminal. Pascale said the development would breathe new life into the Capua hub, from which he expected numerous aircraft to take off carrying new ideas, businesses and employment. He described Capua as set to become a fundamental reference point for European general aviation in southern Italy and the Campania region, and said Tecnam was ready to do its part for Italy’s Regional Air Mobility with the airport network, infrastructure, skills, aircraft and shared vision now in place.
