Ethiopian Airlines has launched a new three-weekly passenger service to Mauritius, adding the Indian Ocean island nation to its network of more than 160 destinations across five continents and connecting Mauritian travellers to Ethiopian’s global route network through the Addis Ababa hub.
NEW MAURITIUS SERVICE OPENS FROM 12 JULY 2026
Ethiopian Airlines inaugurated its new passenger service to Mauritius on 12 July 2026, operating three flights per week between Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius. The launch marks another milestone in the airline’s ongoing continental expansion strategy, reinforcing Addis Ababa’s role as the principal African hub for passengers connecting between the Indian Ocean, sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.
Mesfin Tasew, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, said Mauritius was a destination of remarkable beauty, rich culture and growing economic importance, and that by establishing a direct link between the country and Ethiopian’s vast global network, the airline was pleased to offer convenient travel options to passengers while bringing the world closer to Mauritius. He said Ethiopian would continue to serve as a catalyst for enhanced air connectivity between Africa and the rest of the world.
STRATEGIC AND COMMERCIAL SIGNIFICANCE
Mauritius represents a strategically coherent addition to Ethiopian’s African network. The island’s economy is underpinned by financial services, tourism and a growing technology sector, generating regular travel flows across business, leisure and diaspora categories. The direct connection to Addis Ababa’s hub infrastructure gives Mauritian travellers single-stop access to Ethiopian’s network of more than 160 domestic and international destinations, including key commercial centres across East and West Africa, European gateway cities, and long-haul destinations in Asia and North America that are otherwise served only through Middle Eastern or European hub connections.
The new service also supports Ethiopian’s multi-hub strategy, under which the airline operates hubs through ASKY in Lomé, Togo; Malawi Airlines in Lilongwe; Zambia Airways in Lusaka; and Air Congo in Kinshasa, extending its effective reach across the continent. Ethiopian holds the Skytrax Best Airline in Africa award for eight consecutive years and is a member of Star Alliance, giving Mauritius-based travellers access to the alliance’s global frequent flyer and interline network through Ethiopian’s programme. Passengers on the new route will travel on Ethiopian’s modern fleet, which includes Boeing 737, 777 and 787 aircraft and the Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000.
