Delta has extended its travel waivers for customers affected by a powerful Nor’easter bringing strong winds and heavy rain across the Northeast, with Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) worst affected. The airline reported significant cancellations at BOS on Sunday 27 September and, in an update issued Sunday afternoon, said additional cancellations were expected on Monday 28 September, though fewer than the day before thanks to mitigation efforts across its operation. The storm has also constrained fuel deliveries into BOS; Delta says it is helping offset the shortfall by allocating extra fuel to inbound aircraft for their next scheduled flight and trucking in supplementary fuel by tanker, while staying in close contact with Massport and other airport stakeholders as conditions are monitored.

Affected customers are automatically rebooked onto the next available itinerary and can make further changes via the Delta app or Delta.com; the airline’s Northeast Weather Flexibility and BOS Weather Flexibility waivers remain available, letting eligible customers adjust travel plans without a fee, and Delta says it is contacting affected customers directly with their options. The airline is encouraging customers to check their flight status before heading to the airport and, for those on the last leg of a US domestic itinerary, to use the app’s self-service standby feature to join earlier flights where space allows. Under Delta’s standard policy, customers on a US domestic itinerary who face a delay of three hours or more, or six hours or more on an international itinerary, and choose not to fly are entitled to a full refund of the unflown portion of their ticket, including any ancillary and checked baggage fees.
