Connecting Skies • Bridging Continents

LUFTHANSA GROUP ANNOUNCES ITS MOST EXTENSIVE ROUTE EXPANSION SINCE 2020 FOR SUMMER 2027

Ten new long-haul routes and numerous frequency increases span the group’s seven airlines, with new nonstop U.S. connections from Frankfurt and Munich bookable from 20 October.

Lufthansa Group said its Summer 2027 flight schedule, bookable from 20 October 2026, represents its most extensive network expansion since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, adding ten new intercontinental connections and new European destinations across its airlines: Lufthansa, Discover Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss and ITA Airways.

The group said its focus is on the Americas, with new nonstop connections to Edmonton in Canada, Columbus and Phoenix in the United States, and Caracas in Venezuela, alongside two new Japanese destinations from Frankfurt, Nagoya and Tokyo-Narita.

“The world moves a little closer for Lufthansa Group customers in the Summer 2027 flight schedule, a total of ten new destinations and even more new connections represent not only the largest route expansion across our six Lufthansa Group hubs in a long time, but above all a promise to our guests: even more choice, even better connectivity, and even shorter journeys to what drives people, meeting business partners, family and friends, and exploring the world together with them,” says Stefan Kreuzpaintner, Senior Vice President Commercial Customer Offer.

NEW FROM LUFTHANSA, FRANKFURT AND MUNICH

From Frankfurt, Lufthansa will connect to Columbus, Ohio, three times a week from 5 May 2027, becoming the only European airline with a nonstop connection to the region, using a Boeing 787-9 in the airline’s new Allegris cabin configuration. From 28 March 2027, bookable since 6 October, Lufthansa will add a daily Frankfurt to Tokyo-Narita service, complementing its existing daily Frankfurt and Munich flights to Tokyo-Haneda. The airline will also seasonally resume its Frankfurt to Nagoya route from 29 March 2027, operating three times a week, and is increasing frequencies to Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, Hyderabad, Chennai and Montreal, while its Frankfurt to Kuala Lumpur route, added to the schedule in October 2026, will be expanded to a daily departure through Summer 2027. Dubrovnik, Croatia, returns as a new European destination from Frankfurt, served daily with an aircraft from the A320 family.

From Munich, Lufthansa will launch a new route to Phoenix, Arizona, from 3 August 2027, flying three times a week with an Airbus A350-900. From 28 March 2027 it will add a second seasonal Munich to Delhi service, also with an A350-900, alongside additional frequencies to Bangalore, Chicago, Sao Paulo and Singapore.

NEW ACROSS THE GROUP’S OTHER AIRLINES

SWISS is expanding where demand is highest, retaining its Bengaluru connection with five weekly flights, increasing its Zurich to Tokyo-Narita service to daily at the start and end of the season and up to six times weekly in between, and adding Toulouse as a new destination, served twice weekly from 25 June to 23 August. It is also increasing frequencies to Budapest, Hamburg, Paris, Nice, Bremen and Nis.

Austrian Airlines will extend its Mauritius and Male services into late April 2027, return Tokyo-Narita and Shanghai to the schedule from the start of the season, and serve Bangkok daily throughout summer. Its transatlantic network will again include New York (JFK and EWR), Washington, Boston, Chicago and Montreal, with Los Angeles returning from late April, all using a Boeing 777 between five and seven times weekly; a new Vienna to Beirut route launches from June to September. The airline said it will also offer its largest-ever Greece portfolio within the group, spanning Rhodes, Crete, Mykonos and Kalamata, alongside an expanded Spanish, Italian and French programme.

ITA Airways will launch a new Rome Fiumicino to Caracas service from 30 March 2027, flying three times weekly with A339 aircraft, and add a new domestic Rome Fiumicino to Verona route from 28 March 2027.
