New radio supports analogue communications across 138–174 MHz band
Anodyne Electronics Manufacturing Corp. (AEM) has introduced the MTP138, a new narrowband and wideband panel-mount VHF FM radio designed for special-mission aircraft operations.
Announced on 17 February 2026, the MTP138 is designed to provide analogue communications capability across the 138 MHz to 174 MHz frequency band. The radio is positioned as a modern panel-mount tactical transceiver intended for global special-mission operators.
Tony Weller, AEM Sales and Marketing Director, said the product expands the company’s radio portfolio and is designed to support reliable communications capability for special-mission users.
Designed for demanding mission environments
The MTP138 was developed in consultation with offshore, air medical, search and rescue, coast guard and forest service operators. The unit is designed to support extended operations in demanding environments including offshore oil and gas operations, windfarm support and specialised mission profiles.
The radio incorporates a 3.5-inch NVIS-compatible display providing channel and zone information, with a focus on simplified operation and programming accessibility.
Installation flexibility and upgrade pathway
AEM states that custom installation and conversion kits are available to support mission system upgrades and replacement programmes. The unit can also be converted to a Project 25 digital transceiver configuration if required.
The company is currently evaluating regional supplemental type certificates (STCs) for commonly operated aircraft types to support integration across operator fleets.
Operational and technical features
The MTP138 includes a menu-driven user interface with simplified programming functions. The radio supports up to 40 operational zones and 5,000 channels.
Additional features include a front-panel USB-C data port for loading custom channel and zone profiles, field-adjustable receive sensitivity to support complex RF environments, and thermal management technology designed to support extended mission duration without performance degradation.
