ARCHER TO BUILD NEXT WAVE OF AVIATION AI TECHNOLOGY WITH NVIDIA IGX THOR

Archer Aviation Inc. has outlined plans to develop and deploy the next generation of artificial intelligence technologies for aviation, announcing a collaboration with NVIDIA centred on the NVIDIA IGX Thor platform.

Positioning aviation as a high-impact domain for Physical AI, Archer is targeting advances in aircraft safety, airspace integration and autonomy-ready systems. The company plans to debut its NVIDIA integration at Hawthorne Municipal Airport in central Los Angeles, recently acquired by Archer and expected to serve both as the operational hub for its planned LA air taxi network and as a test bed for AI-powered aviation technologies.

Archer and NVIDIA have been working together since early 2025, with Archer planning to integrate NVIDIA IGX Thor – NVIDIA’s most powerful safety-capable AI computing module – into future iterations of its aircraft programmes. Designed for high-reliability, real-time onboard computing in safety-critical environments, IGX Thor supports advanced perception, decision-making and predictive operations.

The collaboration is focused on three core areas. These include enhancing pilot safety and predictive awareness through high-throughput edge computing that processes environmental and flight-path data in real time; enabling seamless airspace integration by modernising airspace management with improved routing logic and dynamic, traffic-aware flight planning; and developing autonomy-ready flight controls by pairing IGX Thor with Archer’s proprietary avionics and control software to support future semi-autonomous and autonomous operations.

Announcing the initiative at CES, Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein said the event has long served as a launchpad for technologies that reshape industries. He noted that NVIDIA’s AI computing capabilities and software stack provide Archer with a foundation to accelerate towards safer, smarter aircraft systems and to modernise how aviation interfaces with increasingly complex airspace.

Initial integration of NVIDIA IGX Thor into Archer’s development pipeline is already under way, with broader applications expected across manufacturing, fleet operations and pilot training. The move also builds on Archer’s growing ecosystem of AI-focused partnerships, as the company continues to develop enabling technologies for the future of aviation.
