AVOLON AND TAAG ANGOLA AIRLINES AGREE SALE AND LEASEBACK FOR BOEING 787-9 DREAMLINER

Dublin, 23 October 2025 – Avolon, one of the world’s leading aviation finance companies, has finalised a sale and leaseback agreement for a new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with TAAG Angola Airlines, the national carrier of Angola. The aircraft, delivered at the end of September, marks Avolon’s first lease with TAAG and represents a significant step in the airline’s fleet modernisation programme.

Powered by General Electric GEnx engines, the Boeing 787-9 has a range exceeding 7,500 nautical miles and will enhance TAAG’s long-haul connectivity. The widebody addition supports TAAG’s strategy to expand international services, building on a fleet of 18 aircraft currently serving destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Paul Geaney, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Avolon, said:

“We are proud to welcome TAAG Angola Airlines as a new customer and support the growth of their widebody fleet. Africa is expected to be one of the fastest growing regions for aviation over the next twenty years, driven by rising demand for travel and expanding economies. As Angola’s flag carrier, TAAG will play an important role in strengthening regional and intercontinental connectivity. We look forward to building on our relationship and supporting their continued growth.”

TAAG’s Chief Executive Officer, Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira, highlighted the strategic importance of the delivery:

“The 787-9 from Avolon is a pivotal step in our strategy to modernise TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet. This aircraft brings the efficiency and versatility we need to meet growing market demands, replace our ageing widebody fleet, and deliver a world-class experience to our passengers.”

Avolon, headquartered in Dublin, partners with 141 airlines across 62 countries and maintains an owned, managed, and committed fleet of 1,159 aircraft as of 30 September 2025. The company’s long-term investment approach and strong balance sheet continue to underpin its leadership in global aircraft leasing.

For TAAG, the addition of the 787-9 represents another milestone in its ongoing renewal and expansion, aligning with its mission to deliver reliable, efficient, and high-quality air services that support Angola’s economic development and growing global connectivity.
