MONTREAL—Bombardier has widened its use of the Siemens Xcelerator software suite, moving beyond PLM to a fully integrated digital‑thread environment that spans concept, design and production of its business‑jet portfolio.
From Islands of Data to a Single Thread
- The OEM will replace legacy CAD tools with NX for 3‑D modelling, simulation and manufacturing.
- Capital will handle electronic and electrical‑systems design, uniting wiring and mechanical layouts inside the same ecosystem.
- Long‑time backbone Teamcenter remains the central product‑lifecycle manager, now extended to link every discipline’s data into a real‑time digital twin.
- A home‑grown app built on Siemens’ Mendix low‑code platform adds Google‑style search so engineers can pull external datasets straight into Teamcenter.
Why It Matters
Bombardier says the move will shrink programme timelines, lift data quality and lighten IT workload—key levers in a market where speed and reliability of new‑model rollout can make or break sales.
Executive View
“A cohesive digital thread lets us accelerate innovation across the entire aircraft lifecycle,” said Glenn Chapnik, Senior Director of Engineering Projects & Tools at Bombardier.
Siemens A&D VP Todd Tuthill called the expanded deployment evidence of “the value of a comprehensive digital twin to optimise development and advance sustainable aerospace.”
No financial terms were disclosed, but both firms underlined the partnership’s role in driving greener, faster aircraft programmes.
