São José dos Campos, Brazil | 19 June 2025 — Embraer has proudly announced a major operational milestone for its acclaimed A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft at this year’s Paris Air Show: an impressive 600,000 flight hours accumulated by the global fleet. The achievement further cements the A-29’s status as the world’s leading turboprop for light attack, armed reconnaissance, and advanced pilot training missions.
Since its introduction, more than 290 Super Tucanos have been ordered by 22 air forces around the world, underscoring its reputation as a reliable and versatile platform tailored for 21st-century combat and training requirements.
“It is a privilege to share this key achievement in the successful trajectory of the leading aircraft in its category,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “The A-29 Super Tucano is the only light attack, armed reconnaissance, and advanced training turboprop aircraft in production, with proven performance in combat around the world.”
The A-29 has become the aircraft of choice for air forces seeking flexible, combat-proven, and cost-effective solutions. Its mission versatility spans advanced pilot training, close air support (CAS), air interdiction, border surveillance, armed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), air escort, and joint terminal attack controller (JTAC) training.
A notable recent development is Portugal’s acquisition of the A-29N, a NATO-interoperable variant of the aircraft. With upgraded avionics, communications, and mission systems designed to meet NATO’s stringent operational standards, the A-29N exemplifies the aircraft’s adaptability to evolving mission environments.
Designed to operate in rugged conditions, the A-29 can launch from unpaved runways and function effectively with minimal ground support infrastructure. Its advanced human-machine interface (HMI) avionics, precise targeting and weapons systems, and robust airframe contribute to high availability, reliability, and reduced maintenance demands. The result is a platform that delivers powerful performance and longevity with low life-cycle costs.
With continued global interest and proven operational success, the A-29 Super Tucano remains the benchmark in light attack and training aircraft.
