Ethiopian Airlines has reaffirmed its growth trajectory by securing an agreement for the acquisition of 11 more Airbus A350-900s. This significant step was formalised through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the esteemed Dubai Airshow on November 15, 2023.
This strategic move amplifies Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to its fleet expansion, boosting its total order of Airbus A350s to 33, encompassing both the A350-900s and A350-1000s. With an existing fleet of 20 A350-900s, this expansion solidifies the airline’s position as the foremost A350 customer across the African continent.
CEO Mesfin Tasew expressed enthusiasm about this substantial commitment, highlighting the airline’s unwavering dedication to passenger comfort. “We are thrilled to secure an order for 11 Airbus A350-900s,” Tasew remarked. “As an airline focused on customer satisfaction, this fleet’s cutting-edge features, such as the quietest cabin in its class and ambient lighting, align perfectly with our commitment to providing an exceptional onboard experience. Our aim is to elevate our fleet standards by acquiring the latest technology aircraft.”
Christian Scherer, Airbus’s Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, commended Ethiopian Airlines for effectively harnessing the advantages offered by the Airbus A350 in long-haul travel. Notably, he emphasised the airline’s adeptness in leveraging Ethiopia’s strategic geographic position to facilitate swift connections between China and Latin America.
