FINNAIR COMMITS TO EMBRAER E195-E2 FLEET RENEWAL PROGRAMME

Finnair has signed an agreement with Embraer for up to 46 E195-E2 aircraft, marking a significant step in the airline’s fleet modernisation and European network strategy.

Fleet renewal aligned with growth strategy

Finnair’s agreement with Embraer includes 18 firm orders, alongside options and purchase rights that could bring the total to 46 aircraft. The E195-E2 will progressively replace older aircraft types, supporting the airline’s long-term plan to optimise capacity and improve operational efficiency across its regional network.

Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2027, with the aircraft configured in a 134-seat layout suited to short- and medium-haul operations.

Efficiency gains and operational fit

The selection of the E195-E2 reflects a focus on efficiency and operational flexibility. The aircraft offers improved fuel performance compared with previous-generation models, alongside reduced noise levels and a cabin configuration designed to enhance passenger comfort.

These characteristics position the aircraft as a suitable replacement for existing capacity, particularly in markets where right-sizing and frequency remain key to network performance.

Investment in competitiveness

Finnair has described the agreement as a major investment within its broader strategy, aimed at strengthening competitiveness and aligning fleet capability with evolving market demand.

For Embraer, the order reinforces the role of the E2 family within the regional and short-haul segment, where airlines continue to prioritise efficiency and flexibility in fleet planning.

The agreement will be reflected in Embraer’s 2026 first-quarter backlog.
