GA-ASI LINE OF UAS PASSES 9 MILLION FLIGHT HOURS

San Diego – 21 September 2025 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has reached a major milestone, surpassing 9 million cumulative flight hours across its line of unmanned aerial systems. The achievement was driven in part by ongoing test flights of the company’s new YFQ-42A Collaborative Combat Aircraft.

GA-ASI has tracked total flight hours since its founding 33 years ago, with its fleet including some of the most recognisable platforms in uncrewed aviation — Predator®, Reaper®, Gray Eagle®, Avenger®, and the MQ-9B SkyGuardian®/SeaGuardian®.

“What an amazing moment,” said GA-ASI President David R. Alexander. “Having spent so much time supporting the U.S. military and its allies around the world with our other aircraft, it seems fitting that flight testing our new unmanned fighter jet for the U.S. Air Force was what helped bring us past this milestone as we look ahead to a program that will change air dominance again.”

At any given time, as many as 50 GA-ASI aircraft are airborne in support of U.S. and allied operations worldwide. Since the first flight of the RQ-1 Predator on 3 July 1994 — later redesignated as the MQ-1 — GA-ASI’s aircraft have become a mainstay of U.S. and allied forces, with successive models such as the MQ-1C Gray Eagle, MQ-9A Reaper, and MQ-20 Avenger advancing the role of uncrewed systems.

Deliveries of the MQ-9B SkyGuardian are now underway to customers including the U.K. Royal Air Force, Belgian Air Force, and additional orders from Canada, Denmark, Poland, Japan, Taiwan, India, and the U.S. Air Force. MQ-9B features extended endurance, global satellite control, automatic take-off and landing, and Detect and Avoid capability for operations in unsegregated airspace. It has also supported multiple U.S. Navy exercises.

GA-ASI is also shaping the future of uncrewed airpower with new platforms such as the XQ-67A Off Board Sensing Station and the YFQ-42A Collaborative Combat Aircraft, designed for rapid, affordable, large-scale production.

With over three decades of experience and more than 9 million flight hours logged, GA-ASI continues to define the evolution of unmanned aviation.
