HONEYWELL AND GOOGLE CLOUD JOIN FORCES TO ADVANCE AUTONOMY, EMPOWER WORKFORCES, AND BOOST INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTIVITY

Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) and Google Cloud have announced an innovative collaboration aimed at accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the industrial sector. This partnership will integrate Google Cloud’s advanced AI capabilities with Honeywell’s Honeywell Forge platform, a leading industrial Internet of Things (IoT) system, to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and address workforce challenges.

The first solutions from this collaboration, leveraging Google Cloud’s Gemini on Vertex AI platform, are expected to be available in 2025. These solutions will provide Honeywell’s industrial customers with unprecedented insights by seamlessly connecting data, assets, people, and processes.

Driving the Future of Autonomous Operations

“The path to autonomy requires assets working harder, people working smarter, and processes working more efficiently,” stated Vimal Kapur, Chairman and CEO of Honeywell. “This collaboration combines Google Cloud’s cutting-edge AI technology with Honeywell’s deep industrial expertise and extensive data from Honeywell Forge. Together, we’re bridging the physical and digital worlds to create actionable insights that accelerate autonomous operations.”

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added, “Our partnership with Honeywell represents a significant step forward in leveraging AI to transform industrial operations. Together, we’re creating tailored solutions to optimise processes, empower workforces, and deliver meaningful business outcomes across industries worldwide.”

Tackling Labor Shortages with AI

With the retirement of the baby boomer generation creating a labor and skills gap in the industrial sector, Honeywell and Google Cloud are positioning AI as a solution to not only fill this gap but also drive revenue and productivity. According to Honeywell’s 2024 Industrial AI Insights report, while 82% of industrial leaders consider themselves early adopters of AI, only 17% have fully implemented AI initiatives.

The new solutions will introduce AI agents designed to support engineers and technicians in their daily tasks, reducing project timelines and enabling quicker resolution of maintenance issues. For example, AI-powered assistants will answer complex technical queries, analyse performance data, and even interpret sensor readings, making it easier for engineers to access critical information.

Expanding AI Use Cases for Industrial Operations

Honeywell and Google Cloud’s collaboration focuses on three core areas:

  1. Purpose-Built AI Agents: New AI-driven tools will automate tasks, reduce project design cycles, and assist engineers with multimodal insights using Gemini’s ability to process diverse data types, such as images, text, and videos.
  2. Enhanced Cybersecurity: Google Cloud’s Threat Intelligence, powered by Mandiant, will be integrated into Honeywell’s cybersecurity solutions, strengthening protection for industrial infrastructure against evolving threats.
  3. Edge Device Intelligence: Honeywell will explore Google’s Gemini Nano model to enhance on-the-edge AI devices, enabling intelligent scanning, voice-guided workflows, and alarm management, all without requiring a cloud connection.

Supporting Industry Megatrends

This partnership aligns with Honeywell’s focus on three key megatrends: automation, the future of aviation, and energy transition. By integrating AI across its operations, Honeywell aims to drive growth, increase efficiency, and support sustainable industrial practices.
