HUNNU AIR USHERS IN NEW ERA WITH EMBRAER E2 SERVICES BETWEEN MONGOLIA AND CHINA

Beijing, China – 11 May 2025: Mongolia’s Hunnu Air has taken a bold step forward in expanding its international reach with the official launch of scheduled services operated by its new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The inaugural flight from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing Daxing International Airport marks a historic first — the debut of the E2 series operating a scheduled route into mainland China.

In celebration of this milestone, Hunnu Air, Embraer, and Beijing Daxing Airport jointly hosted a ceremony that underscored the route’s role in strengthening air links between Mongolia and China. The new service not only enhances aviation connectivity between the two nations but also promises to foster deeper economic and cultural ties.

Operated by the first of two E195-E2 aircraft delivered to Hunnu Air in April, the flight signals the start of the airline’s wider expansion ambitions. CEO Munkhjargal Purevjal highlighted the significance of the launch: “This new route with our E195-E2 reflects Hunnu Air’s determination to expand our international network and deepens the friendship between Mongolia and China in this new era.” Purevjal added that with rising domestic and regional demand, the E2 will form the backbone of the airline’s growth plans, unlocking new routes and delivering improved connectivity across Asia.

Hunnu Air has already announced plans to deploy the E195-E2 across key leisure and business destinations including Haikou, Sanya, Phu Quoc, and cities in Japan, Vietnam, India, and South Korea. Scheduled flights to Tashkent are also on the horizon. The airline’s E2s are configured in a dual-class layout seating 136 passengers, featuring Embraer’s signature two-by-two seating arrangement — ensuring no middle seats for travellers.

Embraer’s Chief Commercial Officer, Martyn Holmes, commended the airline’s forward-looking strategy: “We take immense pride in this launch — the first E2 jet operating in mainland China. Hunnu Air’s deployment of the E195-E2 highlights our shared commitment to safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. The rightsized E2 will enable Hunnu Air to grow profitably, unlocking Mongolia’s huge potential and strengthening the wider Asia network.”

Since its founding in 2011, Hunnu Air has cemented its position as Mongolia’s second-largest airline, operating from its Ulaanbaatar hub at Chinggis Khaan International Airport. With a network spanning over 15 international routes and a diverse fleet of jets and turboprops, the carrier plays a critical role in linking Mongolia with its neighbours and beyond.

Key to its strategy has been the embrace of modern, efficient aircraft. Having operated Embraer’s first-generation E190s since 2019, the airline now looks to the E195-E2 as a natural upgrade to meet future demand. The fleet addition aligns with Hunnu Air’s commitment to cutting-edge technology, passenger comfort, and sustainability.

Embraer’s relationship with Mongolia stretches back to 2018, when the first ERJ 145 entered service in the country. Globally, Embraer’s E-Jets programme continues its success story, with more than 1,800 aircraft delivered and over 80 airlines across 50 countries operating the type.

As Hunnu Air prepares for the delivery of its second E195-E2 later this year, the airline remains firmly focused on its mission: to connect people and places while ensuring Mongolia’s skies are as dynamic as its rich heritage.
