MTU MAINTENANCE SIGNS GE90 ENGINE MRO CONTRACT WITH GARUDA INDONESIA

The three-year agreement covers maintenance, repair and overhaul of Garuda’s GE90-115B engines at MTU’s Hannover facility, building on a partnership spanning more than two decades.

MTU Maintenance and Garuda Indonesia have signed an agreement for maintenance support of the airline’s GE90-115B engines, the companies said in Hannover on 26 October 2026. Garuda operates eight Boeing 777-300ER aircraft powered by the GE90-115B, and the three-year agreement covers maintenance, repair and overhaul of the engines at MTU’s facility in Hannover, with MTU Maintenance’s Singapore office further assisting with leasing and asset management provision as required.

“The contract with Garuda Indonesia further strengthens MTU Maintenance’s presence in Asia-Pacific, a region where demand for dependable engine maintenance services continues to grow,” said Martin Friis-Petersen, Senior Vice President of MRO Programs at MTU Aero Engines. The relationship between the companies dates back over two decades, and MTU also provides MRO services for CFM International engines to Citilink, a budget airline within the Garuda Indonesia group.

“The APAC region is the major driver of global commercial aviation and requires ready MRO services for operators such as Garuda Indonesia, including for widebody engines,” Friis-Petersen added. “We are happy to offer our network’s GE90 expertise to keep their operations running smoothly. Whether that is custom workscopes, in-house repair capabilities, leasing or digital solutions, we have it covered.”

Mukhtaris Aris, Director of Maintenance of Garuda Indonesia, said the collaboration with MTU Maintenance reflects the airline’s continued commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and operational reliability. “Maintaining the safety and operational readiness of our fleet, including our B777-300ER aircraft, remains a fundamental priority, particularly given their role in supporting our long-haul network,” Aris said. “By leveraging MTU Maintenance’s expertise in GE90 engine maintenance, we aim to further strengthen our fleet readiness and ensure the continued reliability of our operations, enabling us to deliver safe, reliable, and comfortable journeys for our passengers.”

Note: The GE90-110/115B has been part of MTU Maintenance’s MRO portfolio since 2010 and is a cornerstone of its widebody engine business in Hannover; the company says it has retained its rank as a top-tier performer of worldwide GE90 shop visits over the past three years.
