NEW ZEALAND SEARCH AND RESCUE SERVICES ORDERS FOUR AIRBUS H145 HELICOPTERS

Geelong, Australia, 25 March 2025 – In a significant boost to emergency medical services (EMS) in New Zealand, Search and Rescue Services Ltd (SRSL) has placed an order for four Airbus H145 helicopters. The latest additions will reinforce SRSL’s existing fleet of H145 and BK117 aircraft, enhancing its ability to operate in the country’s rugged and remote landscapes.

Christian Venzal, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Australia and New Zealand, welcomed the order, emphasising Airbus’ commitment to advancing emergency medical operations.

“At Airbus, we are proud to contribute to New Zealand’s lifesaving efforts. Helicopter Emergency Medical Services play a vital role in the country, where rugged terrain and remote communities present unique challenges. The integration of the H145 helicopters into SRSL’s operations highlights our shared vision of harnessing advanced rotorcraft solutions to enhance response capabilities while improving safety standards,” said Venzal.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to equipping our partners with the tools they need to overcome the complexities of their missions and continue their vital work in delivering swift, reliable, efficient, and safe medical care to those in need.”

A Leader in Emergency Medical Operations

Renowned for its reliability and advanced technology, the Airbus H145 has established itself as a market leader in Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). Equipped with twin Safran Arriel 2E engines, a spacious cabin, and the cutting-edge Helionix avionics suite, the H145 is well-suited for time-critical missions in demanding environments. It also boasts the lowest CO₂ emissions in its category.

The aircraft integrates several technological advancements, including a state-of-the-art cockpit with an optimised human-machine interface, a Fenestron tail rotor for reduced noise and increased safety, and Airbus’ Helionix avionics. Helionix, connected to the wireless Airbus Cockpit Suite (wACS), enhances flight safety through envelope protection, pilot assistance, and efficient data transfer. It also features an advanced alerting and self-monitoring system, meeting the latest international avionics standards.

Global Success of the H145

With approximately 1,740 H145 family helicopters in service worldwide and over eight million flight hours logged, the aircraft has proven its capability across diverse mission profiles. Nearly 600 H145 family helicopters are currently deployed for HEMS operations, supporting medical teams in delivering critical care where it is needed most.

This latest order underscores the growing role of Airbus’ H145 in supporting emergency medical response across Australasia and beyond.
