NORTHROP GRUMMAN ADVANCES B-21 RAIDER ACROSS TEST AND PRODUCTION

Northrop Grumman has added another B-21 Raider aircraft to its flight test campaign, while simultaneously preparing to accelerate production of the sixth-generation stealth bomber. The newest B-21 took off from Northrop Grumman’s Palmdale, California, facility and completed a robust test flight to arrive at Edwards Air Force Base, joining ongoing flight testing.

With the arrival of the second flight test aircraft, Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Air Force are expanding evaluations into the aircraft’s advanced weapons and mission systems. An upgraded software package will showcase the company’s ability to deliver seamless upgrades to the B-21 fleet, ensuring its mission capability and weapons evolve to address emerging threats.

The expansion of flight testing complements a rigorous ground test campaign that already includes multiple B-21 aircraft. Engineers have subjected the aircraft to extreme mission conditions and simulated lifetimes of operational stress. Results consistently outperform digital modelling predictions, reinforcing confidence in the B-21’s performance and readiness.

Progress Beyond Test

Northrop Grumman is also preparing the Air Force to operate and maintain the B-21 through advanced training and fleet management tools. The company is developing high-fidelity, full-motion simulators, immersive labs, and virtual training spaces at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, for pilots, weapons loaders, maintainers, and support personnel.

Future maintainers will utilise the B-21 Fleet Management Tool, incorporating flight test and performance data alongside decades of sustainment experience. The tool is designed to ensure the aircraft remains mission-ready for the U.S. warfighter.

With continued progress across both flight and ground testing, Northrop Grumman is accelerating delivery of the sixth-generation stealth bomber, solidifying the future of American air power.
