ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – 20 August 2025 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) will supply its AN/TPS-78 Advanced Capability (ADCAP) long-range ground-based air surveillance radars to Paraguay under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme. The deal represents Paraguay’s first-ever FMS partnership with the United States and marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s air defence and surveillance capabilities.
The AN/TPS-78 ADCAP radar will enable Paraguay to detect and track both manned and unmanned aircraft across its national airspace with precision. The acquisition is expected to support broader missions, including counter-narcotics and counter-weapons trafficking operations.
Greg Teitelbaum, vice president of land and maritime sensors at Northrop Grumman, said: “The Northrop Grumman AN/TPS-78 ADCAP radar provides the long-range coverage and precision tracking required by the Paraguayan Air Force to monitor and secure the country’s airspace. Northrop Grumman is committed to rapidly delivering this vital technology.”
The agreement was also discussed during a recent meeting between Paraguayan President Santiago Peña and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, highlighting the economic benefits of the acquisition alongside its national security impact.
Based on more than six decades of Northrop Grumman radar expertise, the TPS-78 ADCAP is already deployed worldwide.
Operating in the S-band frequency, it minimises bandwidth interference and offers high performance in cluttered environments. Its stacked beam architecture allows detection of targets at both high and low altitudes, under all weather conditions. Compact, reliable, and easily transportable, the system also provides low-cost logistics support, making it an adaptable solution for mobile and fixed deployment.
