South African Airways (SAA) has officially opened its newly refurbished domestic departures lounge at Cape Town International Airport, continuing its programme to enhance the passenger experience.
The unveiling marks the third major upgrade in SAA’s revitalised lounge concept, The Lounge, following successful renovations at OR Tambo International in Johannesburg and Chief Dawid Stuurman International in Gqeberha.
Over a four-month transformation, the Cape Town facility has been redesigned to provide a sophisticated and spacious environment for modern travellers. The upgraded lounge now offers expanded capacity and a variety of premium amenities, including curated dining areas, collaborative workspaces, private focus booths, and versatile seating options.
Among the highlights are:
- Copper-clad concierge desks for a warm, personalised welcome
- A mixology show-bar with expert baristas and bartenders
- Buffet-style dining with gourmet breakfasts, all-day meals, and crafted canapés
- Private focus booths for work, entertainment, or calls
- Universal charging ports and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout
The culinary offering, curated by Air Chefs, features fresh seasonal ingredients and gourmet selections to complement full-service bars and refined dining facilities.
Mr Matshela Seshibe, Chief Executive Officer of Air Chefs, said: “We are honoured to contribute to this exceptional passenger experience through our culinary expertise. The menu reflects both global and local tastes, and our team is proud to deliver nourishing, sustainable, and innovative food solutions.”
Professor John Lamola, SAA Group Chief Executive, noted the airline’s focus on customer care: “Our commitment to placing customers first begins the moment they arrive at the airport. This beautifully refurbished lounge is a sanctuary of comfort, delicious food, and exceptional service, an embodiment of the standards and aspirations of our flagship carrier.”
He further thanked Discovery Bank and Investec Bank for their continued collaboration in supporting SAA’s sustainable lounge model.
The SAA Domestic Lounge at Cape Town International is located in the departures terminal, beyond security, close to boarding gates. Access is available to eligible SAA passengers, as well as Discovery Bank clients and Investec Private Banking cardholders, subject to tier and booking class.
The lounge operates Monday to Friday from 04:30 to 21:00, and on weekends from 05:30 to 21:00.
