SAE MEDIA GROUP ACQUIRES AVIATION CARBON TO STRENGTHEN SUSTAINABILITY FOCUS

SAE Media Group has announced the acquisition of Aviation Carbon, the specialist event platform dedicated to carbon reduction, sustainability and decarbonisation across the global aviation industry. The agreement expands SAE Media Group’s sustainability portfolio and reinforces its alignment with SAE International’s long-standing commitment to supporting the sector’s transition towards net-zero operations.

Aviation Carbon has established itself as a leading forum for airlines, airports, original equipment manufacturers, regulators, fuel providers and technology developers to address aviation emissions. Its agenda spans sustainable aviation fuels, market-based measures, emerging decarbonisation strategies and the industry’s non-CO₂ impacts. Under SAE Media Group’s ownership, the event is set to benefit from increased investment, broader international reach and enhanced content development.

SAE International has played a central role in advancing aviation sustainability for decades through global standards development, research and technical collaboration. Its work spans key areas such as sustainable aviation fuels, aircraft electrification, propulsion efficiency and environmental certification. Integrating Aviation Carbon into the SAE portfolio extends this mission by strengthening industry dialogue, accelerating the adoption of best practice and supporting innovation at scale.

Miles Dixon, managing director of SAE Media Group, said the acquisition aligns closely with the organisation’s strategic focus on the future of aviation and the evolving needs of the industry. He noted that Aviation Carbon complements SAE Media Group’s existing aerospace and aviation events, while also connecting directly with SAE International’s technical expertise and leadership in sustainability standards.

Julien Dufour, director of Aviation Carbon Events, said joining SAE Media Group provides a strong platform for the next phase of the event’s development. He highlighted SAE International’s global reach, commitment to decarbonisation and established relationships across the aviation sector as key factors supporting continued growth and relevance.

Christopher Surgenor, director of Aviation Carbon Events and editor and publisher of GreenAir News, described the transition as a natural progression for the longest-running international conference dedicated to aviation decarbonisation. He said the move positions Aviation Carbon to enter its next stage of development under SAE Media Group’s stewardship.

SAE Media Group confirmed it will continue to operate Aviation Carbon with the same emphasis on high-quality, industry-relevant content, while leveraging SAE’s global network and technical heritage to support the platform’s ongoing evolution.
