PARIS, France (Jan. 23, 2025) – Safran Aircraft Engines has finalised the acquisition of Component Repair Technologies (CRT), a global leader in aircraft engine parts repair based in Mentor, Ohio. With a workforce of over 450 employees, CRT will now serve as Safran Aircraft Engines’ center of excellence for the repair of large engine components, including cases and rotating parts, in the Americas.
This acquisition is a key milestone in Safran Aircraft Engines’ ambitious €1 billion investment plan to expand the capacity and workforce of its global maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) network. This plan aims to meet the increasing demand for support for the 32,000 CFM56 and LEAP engines currently in service worldwide.
“We are delighted to welcome CRT teams onboard to strengthen our MRO expertise,” said Jean-Paul Alary, CEO of Safran Aircraft Engines. “This major acquisition perfectly reflects our industrial strategy of providing a world-class repair facility on each continent, located as close as possible to needs in order to best serve our airline customers, and at the same time reduce our carbon footprint from these activities.”
CRT’s repair activities will support Shop Visits for Safran Aircraft Engines’ airline customers with service contracts and for third-party entities in the MRO market. The acquisition further complements Safran’s global MRO network, which includes key facilities in France, the United States, Mexico, and beyond. Notably, CRT’s addition aligns with Safran’s recent announcement of new MRO facilities in Querétaro, Mexico.
Richard Mears, President of CRT, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: “We are proud to become part of one of the world’s foremost aerospace companies, which shares the same values as us. We are also excited to combine CRT and Safran Aircraft Engines expertise to further develop our workforce and technological skills — the keys to CRT’s success for over 40 years — and to bring even greater added value to our customers in the Americas and beyond.”
With this acquisition, Safran Aircraft Engines solidifies its position as a leading provider of cutting-edge MRO services, poised to support the evolving needs of the aerospace industry while prioritizing innovation and sustainability.
