SAUDIA TAKES DELIVERY OF FIRST AIRBUS A321XLR IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA

Saudia has become the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to operate the Airbus A321XLR following delivery of its first aircraft from Airbus.

Saudia has become the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to operate the Airbus A321XLR following delivery of its first aircraft at Toulouse. The delivery marks the introduction of Airbus’ newest extra-long-range single-aisle aircraft into the region.

The aircraft, powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines, is the first of 15 A321XLR aircraft on order for the Saudi Arabian flag carrier. Airbus stated that the delivery forms part of Saudia’s wider fleet modernisation programme and supports the airline’s international network expansion strategy aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.

Network expansion and operational flexibility

Saudia currently serves more than 100 destinations across four continents. Airbus said the A321XLR’s range of up to 4,700 nautical miles will allow the airline to open additional international routes using a single-aisle aircraft on sectors traditionally operated by larger widebody types.

The aircraft is configured with 24 full-flat Business Class seats with direct aisle access and 120 Economy Class seats. The cabin incorporates Airbus’ Airspace Cabin design, including enlarged overhead storage bins, advanced cabin lighting and reduced noise levels.

FOCUS ON EFFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY

Airbus stated that the A321XLR delivers a 30% reduction in fuel burn per seat compared with previous-generation aircraft while also reducing CO2 emissions and noise footprints. The manufacturer added that all Airbus aircraft are currently capable of operating with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with a target of achieving 100% SAF capability by 2030.

The A321XLR forms part of the Airbus A320neo Family, which has accumulated more than 19,900 orders from over 300 customers globally.
