SIKORSKY, HELI-ONE, AND MILESTONE TO LAUNCH S-92 CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN BRAZIL

RIO DE JANEIRO – 24 July 2025 – A landmark collaboration between Sikorsky (a Lockheed Martin company), Heli-One (the MRO division of CHC Helicopter Group), and leasing giant Milestone Aviation is set to significantly strengthen S-92® helicopter support services in South America. The three companies have announced plans to establish a Center of Excellence dedicated to the S-92 platform, strategically located in Rio de Janeiro.

The initiative comes amid growing demand for the S-92 across the region, particularly in rescue and recovery operations, and aims to deliver integrated fleet support, embedded maintenance services, and enhanced mission readiness. The Center will be spearheaded by Heli-One and leverage decades of combined expertise from all three industry leaders.

“We are committed to providing our customers with rigorous and dependable capabilities that ensure the continued success of the S-92 helicopter,” said Leon Silva, vice president of Global Commercial and Military Systems at Sikorsky. “This initiative combines the best skills, expertise and technologies from across the industry.”

Tom Burke, CEO of CHC Helicopter Group, echoed this sentiment: “The time is right for establishing an S-92 Center of Excellence in Brazil. By utilising the knowledge of our Heli-One division and working together with Sikorsky and Milestone, we will be able to offer more integrated and efficient support services and maximise availability for the growing S-92 fleet in the region.”

Milestone Aviation CEO Pat Sheedy emphasised the strategic intent behind the alliance: “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to supporting the growth of the commercial aviation market in Brazil. By combining our expertise, we will enhance the availability and efficiency of our customers’ operations.”

Key elements under consideration for the Center of Excellence include:

  • Access to critical parts inventory such as gearboxes, blades, and dampers
  • Scheduled maintenance inspections, repairs, and overhauls
  • Enhanced logistics and supply chain coordination

Sikorsky has played an integral role in Brazil’s aerospace sector for over five decades. Today, more than 30 S-92 helicopters operate in the country across various missions—including offshore oil and gas, search and rescue, VIP transport, and regional airline service. The platform is certified for operation in multiple South and Central American countries.

With the S-92 programme continuing to evolve through enhancements and investments, this initiative highlights the companies’ joint vision of long-term operational sustainability and growth. The finalisation of the Centre of Excellence remains subject to internal approvals, with further updates expected in the coming months.
