Air Botswana’s Bao Mosinyi becomes Deputy Chair, as Angola is confirmed to host the association’s 57th Annual General Assembly in 2027.
The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) has elected its incoming Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson for the next 12 months at the association’s 56th Annual General Meeting in Mauritius on 10 October. Miguel Carneiro, Chief Executive Officer of TAAG Angola Airlines, was elected Chairperson, while Dr Bao Mosinyi, General Manager of Air Botswana, was elected Deputy Chair.
“Miguel and Bao will provide guidance and support to AASA in our ongoing engagements with governments, aviation regulators, airport operators, air navigation service providers and other relevant role players in our advocacy work. Our goal is that policy, regulations, services and aviation infrastructure support and promote competitive, financially viable and environmentally sustainable, secure and safe air transport with comprehensive intra-African connectivity,” said AASA CEO Aaron Munetsi.
AASA’s 56th Annual General Assembly was sponsored by Airlink and South African Airways and attended by more than 200 delegates representing airlines, airports, air navigation services, civil aviation regulatory authorities, aircraft and engine manufacturers, industry suppliers and other stakeholders. TAAG separately confirmed that Angola will host the 57th AASA Annual General Assembly in October 2027; the airline said the chairmanship would enable it to play a more active role in discussions shaping the future of regional aviation, while hosting next year’s assembly would offer an opportunity to showcase Angola’s aviation sector.
Note: AASA, established in 1970, represents most of the airlines in the Southern African Development Community bloc, with 15 airline members and 42 associate members, and works with IATA, AFRAA and ICAO initiatives in the region. TAAG Angola Airlines is Angola’s national carrier, serving 12 domestic and 13 international destinations alongside cargo operations.
