WASHINGTON D.C., 09 September 2025 – U.S. regional airlines are facing mounting challenges, from pilot shortages and rising operating costs to the urgent replacement of ageing 30- to 50-seat aircraft. Against this backdrop, turboprops are taking centre stage at the Regional Airline Association (RAA) Leaders Conference, scheduled for September 17–19 in Washington, D.C.
German regional aircraft manufacturer Deutsche Aircraft will present its D328eco® turboprop, a next-generation aircraft designed to deliver lower fuel burn, operational efficiency, and a cost-effective solution for fleet renewal.
“This is not just about one aircraft – it’s about reshaping regional mobility,” said Anastasija Visnakova, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Deutsche Aircraft. “By reducing costs on short-haul routes by up to 40% compared to jets, we’re enabling carriers to restore service and open new routes for communities in need of reliable connections.”
Visnakova will also take part in the CEO Panel: The Next 50 Years, on Friday, September 19, where she will discuss how innovation and new entrants will influence the regional aviation sector and passenger experience over the coming decades.
The D328eco®, developed from the ground up to respond to current market pressures, addresses the limitations of legacy turboprops first introduced in the 1980s. Its advantages include:
- Operational efficiency – up to 40% lower seat cost compared with older turboprops and regional jets, alongside significantly reduced fuel burn and CO₂
- Right-sized connectivity – 40-passenger capacity, optimised for underserved and short-haul routes.
- Multi-role flexibility – Configurable for passenger, cargo, medevac and special missions, building on the D328® heritage, including the U.S. Air Force “Wolfhound.”
- Strategic timing – Positioned as a cost-effective replacement strategy for ageing fleets, in line with infrastructure investments and modernisation efforts.
With regional connectivity under pressure, the D328eco® highlights how turboprops can deliver sustainable, right-sized solutions to meet the evolving needs of U.S. regional carriers.
