VIETJET DOUBLES DOWN ON LONG-HAUL AMBITIONS WITH 20 NEW A330NEO ORDERS

HANOI, 26 May 2025 – Vietjet, Vietnam’s largest private airline, has reinforced its international growth ambitions with a firm order for 20 additional Airbus A330-900 widebody aircraft. The signing ceremony took place in Hanoi between Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Wouter van Wersch, President of Airbus International, during an official visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Vietnam. The agreement was witnessed by President Macron and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, underscoring the strategic and diplomatic importance of the partnership.

This major acquisition forms part of Vietjet’s decade-long expansion plan and effectively doubles the airline’s total A330neo order to 40 aircraft. The carrier aims to use the new widebodies to ramp up services on high-density Asia-Pacific routes while also preparing for the launch of long-haul flights to Europe. With this move, Vietjet is positioning itself as a key player not only in regional connectivity but also in intercontinental low-cost travel.

“Modern Airbus aircraft, with the latest levels of efficiency and lower fuel consumption, have accompanied Vietjet’s growth and will continue to support our global flight network expansion,” said Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao. “Vietjet remains dedicated to delivering greater connectivity and sustainable air travel for millions of passengers around the world.”

Airbus welcomed the continued collaboration. “Vietjet has established itself as one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world, bringing low fares with warm Vietnamese hospitality,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales for Commercial Aircraft at Airbus. “We are proud that the carrier has selected the A330neo as its widebody aircraft of choice to build on its success.”

Vietjet currently operates an all-Airbus fleet comprising 115 A320 Family aircraft and seven A330-300s. The new A330neo fleet, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, offers a range of up to 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 kilometres), giving the airline the capability to extend its network to far-reaching destinations. The A330neo’s Airspace cabin also brings enhanced passenger comfort, featuring more space, larger overhead bins, a new lighting system, and cutting-edge in-flight entertainment and connectivity.

The A330 Family continues to see robust global demand, with more than 1,800 firm orders from over 130 customers by the end of April 2025. The A330neo is already certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability across its fleet by 2030.

As Vietjet continues to grow its footprint across continents, this latest order signals the airline’s commitment to scaling sustainably and affordably, while reshaping the landscape of long-haul low-cost air travel.
