Stefano Bortoli Appointed to Lead Expanded Aeronautics Operations.
Rome – 6 May 2025 — Leonardo has officially launched its new Aeronautics Division, a strategic move aimed at reinforcing its leadership in both military and civil aviation markets. Stefano Bortoli has been named Managing Director of the newly formed division, which consolidates the Group’s Aerostructures and Aircraft Divisions under a single, powerful entity.
The creation of the Aeronautics Division marks a key milestone in Leonardo’s industrial plan, first unveiled in March 2024, and is designed to sharpen its competitive edge in the aeronautics sector. The division will oversee an expanded portfolio, bolstering international strategic partnerships and accelerating growth across key markets.
With a workforce exceeding 11,000, the division will focus on advancing Leonardo’s capabilities in aerostructures, fixed-wing aircraft, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS/RPAS), solidifying its role as a major player not only in Italy and Europe but on the global stage. A primary objective is to fast-track the development of enabling technologies critical to the next generation of multi-domain aeronautical systems.
Leonardo’s reshaped structure positions the company to better navigate the evolving aerospace landscape, ensuring continued innovation and resilience in a highly competitive environment.
