EMBRAER ESTABLISHES INDIAN SUBSIDIARY TO DEEPEN AEROSPACE FOOTPRINT

Strategic expansion targets defence, commercial, and regional aviation opportunities.

New Delhi, India – 30 May 2025 – In a bold move underscoring its long-term strategic interest in India, Brazilian aerospace and defence giant Embraer has announced the formation of a wholly owned Indian subsidiary. The new corporate office, located in AeroCity, New Delhi, signals a decisive expansion into one of the world’s most dynamic aerospace markets.

The establishment of the subsidiary marks a significant milestone in Embraer’s evolving relationship with India, as the company seeks to strengthen its presence across defence, commercial aviation, business aviation, services and support, and the fast-growing urban air mobility sector. With plans to grow its team locally, Embraer aims to set up dedicated functions in procurement, supply chain, engineering, and corporate operations.

“India is a key market for Embraer, and this expansion demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the country,” said Francisco Gomes Neto, President & CEO of Embraer. “We are excited to deepen our collaboration with the Indian aerospace and defence industry, leveraging our expertise and technology to contribute to the nation’s growth and Make in India campaign.”

Embraer already has a substantial footprint in India, with nearly 50 aircraft across 11 types operating in commercial, defence, and business aviation. These are supported by the company’s established local service and support infrastructure.

The strategic importance of the Indian market was further reflected in Embraer’s participation at the IATA AGM 2025 in New Delhi and in its growing bilateral ties with India. Notably, Embraer Defence & Security signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mahindra Defence Systems in February 2024 to explore a joint bid for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme, centred on the C-390 Millennium.

Designed to meet the demands of 21st-century military operations, the C-390 is a versatile multi-mission aircraft that delivers superior speed (470 knots), range, and payload capacity (26 tons) compared to other aircraft in its category. Operational at full capability, it supports missions including cargo and troop transport, air-to-air refuelling, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian relief.

In commercial aviation, the E-Jets family is positioned to transform India’s regional connectivity landscape. With their ability to economically serve thinner routes and tier two and three cities, the E-Jets have already demonstrated success with Star Air, an all-Embraer operator. These aircraft bridge the gap between turboprops and large narrowbodies, offering right-sized capacity and extended range, ideal for India’s vast and varied geography.

On the defence front, the Indian Air Force and Border Security Force currently operate Embraer’s Legacy 600 for VIP transport. Additionally, the indigenously modified ‘Netra’ AEW&C platform—based on the Embraer ERJ145—forms a critical part of India’s airborne surveillance capabilities.

As Embraer strengthens its foothold in India, the move not only affirms the company’s confidence in the local market but also reflects the deepening aerospace collaboration between Brazil and India. With its expanded base, Embraer is well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to India’s aerospace ambitions.
