HANWHA SYSTEMS AND MILKOR SIGN STRATEGIC MOU TO EQUIP MILKOR 380 UAV WITH AESA SAR RADAR FOR GLOBAL DEPLOYMENT

Paris – June 2025 — At the 2025 Paris Air Show, Hanwha Systems, a South Korean leader in defense electronics, and Milkor Aerospace and Defence, a specialist UAV manufacturer, signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate Hanwha’s cutting-edge Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) onto the Milkor 380 unmanned aerial platform.

The MoU was formally signed by Julian Coetzee, CEO of Milkor UAE, and Hyuck Park, Senior Vice President of Hanwha Systems’ Defense Electronics Business Division. This strategic collaboration aims to produce a fully integrated, export-ready ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) solution tailored for regional and global defence markets.

“This partnership brings together two highly capable organisations that complement one another,” said Coetzee. “We are looking forward to our continued collaborative efforts with Hanwha. By combining our resources and expertise, we believe we can create great opportunities, not just in the Middle East but across international markets.”

The Milkor 380, a flagship MALE (Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance) UAV, is designed for multirole operations including ISR and precision strike. With over 35 hours of endurance, a payload capacity of more than 220 kg, and a range exceeding 4,000 km, the platform also features multiple hardpoints, SATCOM capabilities, and a modular open systems architecture—ensuring adaptability across various mission requirements.

Hanwha Systems’ AESA SAR payload will provide the Milkor 380 with high-resolution imaging, Ground and Maritime Moving Target Indication (GMTI/MMTI), and robust all-weather surveillance functionality. “This collaboration allows us to combine Hanwha’s advanced technology with Milkor’s proven UAV platform to deliver next-generation defence capabilities to global customers,” noted Park.

By uniting leading-edge radar technology with a versatile UAV platform, the partnership sets the stage for enhanced situational awareness and intelligence-gathering in both conventional and asymmetric operations, opening new pathways for defence exports.
