SITA TO DELIVER NEXT-GEN SELF-SERVICE TECH AT TAIPEI SONGSHAN AIRPORT

TAIPEI, 24 June 2025 — Travellers passing through Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA) will soon experience a faster, more efficient check-in and boarding process, thanks to a groundbreaking new partnership with global air transport IT provider SITA. The airport has selected SITA to spearhead a next-generation shared check-in counter project, bringing cutting-edge self-service and biometric technology to its international terminal.

This deployment places TSA at the forefront of Asia-Pacific’s smart airport transformation, ensuring a seamless, scalable passenger journey while boosting operational efficiency for airlines.

Biometric Tech to Streamline Every Step

At the heart of the upgrade is SITA Smart Path—a biometric-powered, common-use check-in solution that integrates facial recognition with ID verification. Paired with SITA Flex, the platform empowers travelers to check in via their mobile devices, bypassing traditional queues and counters.

Passengers will also benefit from SITA Self Bag Drop, a proven technology that reduces baggage processing times by up to 80%. Fully integrated with Smart Path’s biometric authentication, the system enables self-service bag drop in as little as 70 seconds, freeing staff to focus on complex passenger needs and reducing congestion in the terminal.

“All our solutions boast modular, flexible design, meaning our technology will grow with TSA and its airlines,” said Sumesh Patel, President for Asia Pacific at SITA. “We’re helping the airport keep pace with soaring passenger numbers by moving them through the terminal with unprecedented speed and efficiency.”

Smart Tech for Smart Airports

The full rollout, expected by the end of 2025, includes SITA Maestro, a powerful Departure Control System (DCS) that automates check-in and boarding processes while providing real-time analytics and operational continuity, even during network disruptions.

These tools are particularly vital as Asia-Pacific braces for a 7.9% growth in air passenger traffic this year—the fastest rate globally. Without physical expansion options, airports like TSA are turning to digital transformation to scale effectively.

A Global Leader in Passenger Solutions

SITA’s reach and innovation have surged in recent years. In 2024, the company acquired Materna IPS, a leader in automated passenger handling, and ASISTIM, providing full-service airline operations control. It also launched SmartSea to extend its digital travel solutions to maritime, cruise, rail, and Urban Air Mobility sectors including Vertiports.

SITA supports more than 1,000 airports and over 18,000 aircraft, connecting 45% of the air transport community’s data exchange. With a strong focus on sustainability, the company has secured Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approval for its emissions reduction goals, and continues to develop aviation solutions that enable reduced fuel burn and lower carbon emissions.

As the Asia-Pacific aviation market rebounds post-pandemic, TSA’s collaboration with SITA ensures it remains agile, efficient, and passenger-first—delivering a travel experience built for the future.
