As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia accelerates towards its ambitious Vision 2030 and prepares to host major global events like the World Expo in Riyadh (2030) and the FIFA World Cup (2034), The Helicopter Company (THC) has emerged as a pioneering force in the region’s aviation landscape. Established under the Public Investment Fund, THC was created to address the growing demand for efficient, versatile, and safe rotorcraft operations across the Kingdom.
“THC was established as part of the grand vision of the 2030s,” says Captain Abdulmajeed, Deputy Chief Pilot at THC, with more than 18 years of flying experience. “This sector was non-existent before, and we have been the pioneers since the beginning.”
In just five years, THC has grown a fleet of over 60 helicopters, more than half of which are manufactured by Airbus. The company currently operates 12 H125s, 20 H145s, and five of the latest ACH160s—demonstrating a clear strategy built on operational excellence, customer trust, and an unwavering commitment to safety.
Building a Safer, More Efficient Network
The ACH160, in particular, has become a cornerstone of THC’s modern fleet. “It seems like the best of all Airbus innovations just came along at the right time and have been presented in one product,” observes Captain Abdulmajeed.
With standout features such as a large Fenestron for reduced sound levels, Blue Edge blades for added flight stability, and Helionix avionics for seamless cockpit integration, the ACH160 prioritises safety, efficiency, and comfort. Its fuel-efficient, SAF-ready engines, redundant systems, and streamlined maintenance procedures make it especially suited to THC’s demanding operations.
Safety remains THC’s top priority. The ACH160’s advanced systems include automated take-off and landing modes, along with autopilot functionality that can detect and avoid negative flight conditions. “The avionics system is designed to mitigate distractions and enhance pilot focus—marrying human experience with technology to ensure safe and efficient flights,” adds Abdulmajeed.
Serving the Kingdom with Purpose
THC plays a vital role in Saudi Arabia’s growing aviation infrastructure. Its Airbus H145s, for example, are essential to the Kingdom’s Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). “More than half of our operations are HEMS,” Abdulmajeed notes. “We have over 18 bases across the country, and since 2022, our HEMS missions have saved more than 5,000 lives.”
The company’s operations span a range of missions, including tourism, corporate travel, aerial work, EMS, and broader commercial development. In an environment where temperatures can exceed 50°C, THC depends on aircraft that deliver reliable performance. The ACH160’s powerful air-conditioning system, long-range endurance, and quick-start capability make it especially valuable. “You can have the rotor running in two minutes. That’s unmatched,” says Abdulmajeed. “Other helicopters can take 20–30 minutes due to turbine temperature cooldown.”
Ready for a Global Stage
As Saudi Arabia prepares to welcome millions of visitors and cements its global prominence, THC is positioning itself as a trusted air mobility partner. The ACH160’s combination of innovation, efficiency, and comfort reflects the country’s aspirations for seamless, world-class infrastructure.
In every mission flown and every life saved, The Helicopter Company demonstrates that its strategic aircraft selection—led by Airbus—was not only deliberate, but decisive in shaping the future of aviation in the region.
