Melbourne, Fla. — July 21, 2025. L3Harris Technologies has secured a $300 million contract from the Italian government to deliver two Gulfstream G550 aircraft configured for advanced electromagnetic warfare (EW) operations. This strategic acquisition marks the first U.S. government-approved sale of the EA-37B system to an international ally, significantly enhancing Italy’s airborne EW capabilities.
In partnership with BAE Systems, L3Harris will equip the G550 platforms with cutting-edge electromagnetic attack systems. These modified aircraft will provide the Italian Air Force with the ability to disrupt enemy command and control, radar, and navigation systems from extended standoff ranges — a critical asset in today’s rapidly evolving electronic battlespace.
“We are expanding our support of Italy’s armed forces by equipping them with modern mission technology ready for managing a dynamic global landscape,” said Jason Lambert, President of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance at L3Harris. “Our team will provide Italy with solutions to augment its national security and increase its interoperability with the U.S. and strategic allies.”
The new aircraft will complement Italy’s Joint Airborne Multi-Mission Multi-Sensor System (JAMMS) programme, under which L3Harris is already modifying two Gulfstream G550 ISR platforms. This broader initiative reflects L3Harris’ growing footprint in the field of multi-mission aircraft systems across commercial platforms.
The company brings a 70-year legacy of aircraft integration, having worked with more than 10 original equipment manufacturers and missionized over 125 aircraft types. To date, L3Harris has delivered 103 mission-ready business jets in support of global security operations for countries including the U.S., Australia, Canada, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
The addition of these EA-37B-equipped G550s marks a significant leap in Italy’s airborne EW capabilities and further solidifies the country’s role within the NATO alliance as a technologically advanced contributor to joint operations.
